Valentino Rossi

Valentino Rossi, (born February 16, 1979 in Urbino), is an Italian professional motorcycle racer and multiple MotoGP World Champion. He is one of the most successful motorcycle racers of all time, with 9 Grand Prix World Championships to his name. According to Sports Illustrated, Rossi is one of the highest earning sports personalities in the world, having earned an estimated $34 million in 2007.

Following his father, Graziano Rossi, Rossi started racing in Grand Prix in 1996 for Aprilia in the 125cc category and won his first World Championship the following year. From there, he moved up to the 250cc category with Aprilia and won the 250cc World Championship in 1999. He won the 500cc World Championship with Honda in 2001, the MotoGP World Championships (also with Honda) in 2002 and 2003, and continued his streak of back-to-back championships by winning the 2004 and 2005 titles after leaving Honda to join Yamaha, before regaining the title in 2008 and retaining it in 2009.

Rossi is first in all time 500 cc/MotoGP race wins standings, with 78 victories, and second in all time overall wins standings with 104 race wins (behind Giacomo Agostini with 122).

The above picture was taken during the Qatar MotoGP Championship 2010 held at Lusail International Circuit, State of Qatar. Back in 2009, the pole position is taken by Stoner, runner-up by Rossi & 2nd runner up is by Lorenzo. At first Casey Stoner had the lead with no. 1 on starting grid and leading on the first few laps with Rossi seconds trailing behind.. However, coz of the pressure of being the lead, he make a mistake and crash out of the lead just five laps into the race in one of the corners.. Therfore, Valentino Rossi then take the lead and subsequently won the championship..

In Lusail, there is no spectators seating at the corner or other places, they only allowed you to seat at the Grand Stand with the ticket price of QAR100 for 3 days.. quite cheap by the way.. however.. if you want to go into the VIP village.. it will cost you more than QAR3k.. huhuhu.. damn expensive..

The Lusail circuit is 5.4km, making it the third longest in the GP tournament. The longest straight is 1.068km, which should have the racers hitting 330kph! The seventh turn (of a total of 16 curves) – a long sweeper – will allow speeds of up to 250kph, so should be pretty spectacular.

The following pictures are some of the other riders taken on the same day..

Juninho Pernambucano

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

juninho, originally uploaded by ombakpictures.

Antônio Augusto Ribeiro Reis Jr. (born 30 January 1975 in Recife), commonly known as Juninho or Juninho Pernambucano, is a Brazilian footballer and dead-ball specialist, currently playing as a midfielder for Qatar club Al-Gharafa. He became a free agent and joined Al-Gharafa after winning 7 consecutive Ligue 1 titles with Olympique Lyonnais, finishing third in the 08-09 season. He scored 100 goals in 344 games for the Olympique Lyonnais. He scored six goals in 40 games for the Brazilian national team, before retiring from international football after the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

On 17 June 2009, Juninho signed a two-year contract with Qatari club Al-Gharafa for a fee of €2.5 million. He was given the number 5 shirt.

The above picture was taken during the Semi Finals match between Al-Gharafa & Qatar Sports Club for the 16th Heir Apparent Cup on 19 April 2010 at Al-Saad Football Stadium. The game started at 6.30pm with a result of 2-1 wins to Al-Gharafa.. It was a great experience for me to capture the image of the professional footballer & watched the game live..

High speed shutter is used to capture all the action images, in order to freeze the moments.. luckily, I have my Nikon D3s with me & couple it with Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 lens, i can capture some of the good shots (as for me lar).. maybe if only i have the big expensive lenses of 300mm or 400mm can get a better image.. hehehehhee.. but you know.. that lens will cost me more than the price of my Nikon D3s body.. wohahahhaa.. cannot afford it for now.. maybe one day, I will be able to own it.. insyaallah..

Freezing the Moments – Action Shot

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Exiff data:

D200 + N24-70 f/2.8 – ISO-100, f/3.2, 1/160 sec
One strobe from left of camera using SB900 – trigger using PW Plus II @ 1/16

Post processing:
Adobe Photoshop CS3
level, curve, crop & add minor color tone effect

Model: George

To capture or freez any moments you got to have a faster shutter speed. Especially when it comes to sporting event except for some of motor sports where you want to do some panning to show the vehicle is on fast moving action. But most of the action has to be frozen to show the action of the athlete.. i.e. shutter speed have to be at least 1/200 and above..

For the above picture I use shutter speed of 1/160 sec to capture it.. For this kind of picture.. perfect timing is a compulsory.. another technique I learn from Nazrie is when we try to capture a sports event to open both eyes.. one eye inside the viewfinder and the other eye is outside your camera.. so you can predict when to press your shutter when the time comes..

This picture is taken way back in 2009 when I join the very first outing with the WARP (formerly known as GPNQ).. thanks to all members of WARP for the warm welcome & the photography spirit & passion.. without the cooperation of all the session will not become a success.. thumbs up to all..
