Wednesday, June 30th, 2010This picture was taken back in February 2010 during the Sand Dune trip with MAQ (Malaysian Association of Qatar).. In Doha, Qatar, you can always get the beautiful blue sky coz of the weather is always dry & hot. Cold season in Qatar is normally from late October till end of March or April.. the weather can be as low as 10 degrees Celsius during this season.. However, during the summer season.. the weather can be as hot as 50 degrees Celsius..

klair, originally uploaded by ombakpictures.
Camera: Nikon D3s
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 200 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Model: Klair
time of the picture taken is nearly sunset in Doha (5.26pm). so in order to compensate back with the surrounding getting darker, I have to up the ISO to 400. therefore I can continue using shutter at high speed. for this picture the shutter is still 1/250 sec to freeze any moments of the subject.
to throw out the background in blur (bokeh), I use aperture at f/2.8 and by using a telephoto lens, its even enhance the bokeh.. the longer the focal length & shallow the depth of field, the background is more bokeh..
what is “BOKEH” means..
Origin
The term comes from the Japanese word boke, which means “blur” or “haze”, or boke-aji, the “blur quality”. The Japanese term boke is also used in the sense of a mental haze or senility.
The English spelling bokeh was popularized in 1997 in Photo Techniques magazine, when Mike Johnston, the editor at the time, commissioned three papers on the topic for the March/April 1997 issue; he altered the spelling to suggest the correct pronunciation to English speakers, saying “it is properly pronounced with bo as in bone and ke as in Kenneth, with equal stress on either syllable”. Bokeh replaced the previous spelling boke that had been in use at least since 1996, when Merklinger had also suggested “or Bokeh if you prefer.”
The term bokeh has appeared in photography books at least since 1998. It is sometimes pronounced /bo’k/ (boke-uh).
In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light.” Differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause some lens designs to blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce blurring that is unpleasant or distracting— “good” or “bad” bokeh, respectively. Bokeh occurs for parts of the scene that lie outside the depth of field. Photographers sometimes deliberately use a shallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions.
Bokeh is often most visible around small background highlights, such as specular reflections and light sources, which is why it often associated with such areas. However, bokeh is not limited to highlights, as blur occurs in all out-of-focus regions of the image. Bokeh can also be viewed by forcefully blurring one’s vision while looking at a small light, like an LED.

Monday, March 29th, 2010
I think I have posted this topic into my blog. There is something wrong with my blog that the posting that I have posted on 27 March 2010 is gone.. hmm.. I have to post a new one then..
So guys.. all of you already known about Earh Hour.. what I do understand about it is.. it is to make an awareness to the people for global warming..
ABOUT EARTH HOUR (contents taken from http://www.earthhour.org)
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.
In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
Earth Hour 2010 takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to Asia to the Americas will stand in darkness. People across the world from all walks of life will turn off their lights and join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.
Here are some of the banners of Earth Hour taken from their website..
So on that day, 27 March 2010, I went with some of my friends to Intercontinental Beach in West Bay area in Doha to witness whether Doha will also going to support the Earth Hour. As expected, Doha also joining them to support the Earth Hour.. all the tall building in Doha, is in darkness since before 8.30pm that night.. but the whether is not so good to take pictures coz of the sand storm.. dust is everywhere even you have to drive carefully not to hit others..
To make it fun & enjoyable outing, together witnessing the Earth Hour supported by all people around the world.. the only thing that I can do is playing with some lightings.. light painting & such.. oohh.. I’m not suppose to use light by the way.. it’s Earth Hour lah.. hehehehe.. but what are you going to do with the weather condition like this in doha.. what to do yakni.. play with lightings lor..
Here are some of the pictures that I have created that day.. & thanks to Leigh, Len, Christ & Jade for joining me..

13 Ramadhan 1430H
Thursday, September 3rd, 200913 Ramadhan 1430H = 03 September 2009..
hmmm arini dah arrange awal-awal ngan geng SOJV untuk berbuka kat Sri Kebaya, a Malaysian Restaurant in Souq Waqif here in Doha, State of Qatar.. balik keje seperti biasa jam 2pm.. lepak jap dalam bilik just waiting for Nazri to call & to pick me up at the front gate of the labour camp entrance.. lepak punya lepak sampai ler terlelap.. sedar-sedar jasmin call tanya apa plan arini.. hmmm plan arini gi sri kebaya berbuka.. pehtu gi awal sikit pasal nak buat street shooting kat souq waqif.. memula memang plan nak suh nazri amik aku.. tapi nazri pun baru bangun & tgh jail break my iphone & install the 3.0.1 version.. so jasmin jer lar pickup aku kat gate..
sampai kat souq waqif masih awal dalam kul 5 lebih.. berbuka kul 5.53pm.. so kami pusing2 souq utk take some shot..
one of the view of souq waqif, doha, state of qatar.. one of the olders location in doha.. have all the old buildings & some of it has been built again to make it for the tourist attraction and preserve the surroundings from modenisation..
souq waqif
al-fana.. the islamic centre of Doha, State of Qatar
mmm burung apa nie ek.. tak tau ler aku.. pusing-pusing kat souq waqif ni ada lak burung2 ni.. memang untuk dijual
burung lagi.. tak tau apa jenis.. hehehe
burung nuri kot ni.. tak sure.. tapi kecik jer.. love the color.. actually memula ingat patung.. rupanya burung betul..
lengang jer lorong-lorong kat souq waqif nie.. orang akan ramai lepas iftar..
aaa.. dah nak sampai waktu berbuka.. kat sini ler aku berbuka arini.. Sri Kebaya, Malaysian Restaurant in Souq Waqif
sirap selasih.. lama tak pekena.. huhhu.. nasib ada jugak jual kat sini..
the buffet at Sri Kebaya.. sikit jer.. tapi ok lar... but cannot beat Lagenda.. hehehe
my food
my friend's meal..
air bandung pun ada.. layan...
nazri.. happy nyer dia.. yer lar nak balik raya lar katakan..
its me.. panas dowh duk luar ni.. berpeluh-peluh dibuatnya.. hahahhaa..
heheheh.. ada jugak nak menyelit.. jadi duta BB ar lepas nie.. BB + Dunhill Light + Zippo
souq waqif at dusk.. leh lihat ramai orang dah mula kumpul kat sini.. samada untuk membeli barang-barang untuk beraya ataupun just hang-out with friends and having shisha..
then after iftar.. kami teruskan misi kami malam tu.. street shooting & photojournalism style.. hanya sekadar mencuba.. mana ler tau kan.. leh jadik photog reuters lak.. hehehehehe..
salah satu lorong dalam restaurant kat sini..
leh lihat kat dalam gambar ni jasmin..
singgah jap kat salah satu kedai al-baya ni.. manik2 dia cantik.. vogue ok..
vogue ok.. cantik tak..
lengan al-baya..
a worker of royal tandoor restaurant waiting for customer..
shisha anyone.. hehehe
souveniors anyone..
tempat air..
lagi macam-macam cenderahati untuk tourist..
one of the outside building at souq waqif..
we call that area souq philipines.. near al-fana islamic centre..
tasbih for sale..
kusi ker ni.. aku pun tak sure..
kulit kambing..
ada sesapa nak naik kibasy pusing-pusing souq waqef.. mainly for kids dowh.. not for elders..
hmm.. habis dah pusing souq dan beli apa yang terfikir untuk dibawa balik.. then berjalan kaki ker arah al-corniche untuk capture night scenery.. salah satunya ialah “pearl” besar yang terletak di sini.. re-visit dan retake..
untuk mendapatkan hasil yang terbaik, i took 5 different exposure using bracketing function in my camera.. & later post processing in PS CS3 to get the HDR effect..
just to let you all know what is the different of HDR and normal picture.. as you can see below.. the first picture is taken by metering at the pearl.. so you can get the correct exposure of the pearl, but the background of west bay skyline is dark..
the pearl at correct exposure.. but the background is not..
the west bay skyline properly taken but the pearl already over exposed.. so it is not a good picture..

The result.... HDR merge image from 5 different exposure..

the result..
jasmin
nazrie..
lastly its me...
for the light trail picture, i’m using D200 – ISO-100 – f/16 – 6 sec.. the same setting is used for all 3 pictures above but with one SB900 with rear curtain settings on the left to get the strobist effect.. but the subject has to stand still in order to get the sharp image for 6 seconds.. if not you will get a ghosting image..
